Debating the Use of Google AdWords
Thanks to everyone who took the time to reply to my post. I’d like to respond to some of the comments, because, well, just because.
First thing first: my AdWords campaign, as it is configured today, works very, very well. It produces inquiries, which we turn into paying customers. The average inquiry we get via phone and e-mail yields about $3,450 in revenue. And my total AdWords spending is less than 5 percent of my annual revenue, which I consider to be acceptable. So all of the advice to fiddle with this and change that and look into the other is interesting, but I may or may not change anything. It ain’t broke. I don’t need to fix it.
Second, some clarification on my account and budget. I advertise only on the search network, not the content network. I used to run on the content network, but we got enormous numbers of junk hits that were related to searches for sports conferences and yes, I know that I could have cleaned that up with negative keywords, but that’s a never-ending task. I suspe

Emirates airline orders 50 more Boeing 777s
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Dubai’s fast-growing airline Emirates kicked off the Middle East’s biggest airshow Sunday with an order for a whopping 50 Boeing 777s, marking the U.S. aircraft maker’s biggest-ever single order in dollar terms.
Emirates and Boeing Co. valued the unexpectedly large deal for an extended-range version of the 777-300 at $18 billion – the total by list price – though the carrier is unlikely to pay that much for the planes. Airlines typically negotiate big discounts, especially when buying in bulk.
Emirates has an option to buy another 20 777s as part of the order. Doing so would push the deal’s value to $26 billion.
The deal further establishes Emirates as Boeing’s best customer for the twin-engine 777, a workhorse of the carrier’s long-haul fleet.
Emirates already has 95 777s in service and had another 40 already on the order books.
Storm as Ryanair boss says he’ll allow porn on planes (IrishCentral)

Ryanair Boss Michael O’Leary has told the Sun newspaper that he would allow porn on his planes on hand held devices or tablets.
Hotels around the world have it, so why wouldnt we? he said.
O’Leary told The Sun: I’m not talking about having it on screens on the back of seats for everyone to see. It would be on handheld devices.
He stated passengers could log on to a Ryanir app using their smart phones or tablets and then could pay to gamble, watch movies or turn the skies blue.
He said the plan could take a year to take off giving the cost of installing broadband on the planes.

OLearys comments set off a firestorm of criticism and the airline later was forced to retract his comments.
A Ryanair spokesperson said:
While Michael encourages Ryanairs ancillary revenue teams to explore all optional products to ensure our airfares remain the lowest in Europe, our onboard sales and services will always be family friendly.
Bob Atkinson, of Travelsupermarket, said: There may be a market for porn in hotels, but that’s in the privacy of a room.

Fed-up consumers planning for ‘Bank Transfer Day’
NEW YORK (AP) — It’s moving day for bank customers.
A grassroots movement that sprang to life last month is urging bank customers to close their accounts in favor of credit unions by Saturday.
The spirit behind “Bank Transfer Day” caught fire with the Occupy Wall Street protests around the country and had more than 79,000 supporters on its Facebook page as of Friday. The movement has already helped beat back Bank of America’s plan to start charging a $5 debit card fee.
It’s not clear to what extent the banking industry’s about-face on debit card fees will extinguish the anger driving the movement.
